Dead Island:
Best Video Game Trailer Ever?

150 150 Spot Cool Stuff

What’s the most engaging, memorable and visually stunning video game trailer ever made? It might be the one for Dead Island. There’s something about its music, its slow motion scenes and its unusual mix of forwards and backwards action that plants itself hauntingly in one’s mind.

The trailer also depicts graphic violence and disturbing images. It’s definitely not for kids and could be overly harrowing even for adults who have kids . . . or who mildly like kids . . . or who hope to one day go on a peaceful vacation to a tropical isle. With that warning, you can watch the trailer video below.

So does having a superlative trailer mean that Dead Island will be a superlative video game?

Not necessarily.

We’ll all been sucked into watching terrible movies by great trailers. And the trailer for Dead Island doesn’t show any gameplay; it’s a computer movie that sets up the plot behind the game. Furthermore, Dead Island is a product of Techland. Heretofore, the video game developer’s best product has been Call of Juarez, which is an above average first-person shooter but nothing spectacular.

On the other hand, Spot Cool Stuff has not yet had a hands-on preview of Dead Island and the reports from those few who have are intriguing. The game features an open world, role play elements and four player cooperative gameplay.

Dead Island is not yet available for pre-order but is expected to be released sometime in 2011 for Xbox, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows.
