Macklemore’s Same Love is Different Music

If a rapper spits pro-gay marriage lyrics on the Internet, and the Baby Boomer generation doesn’t own an iPad, is it still a socially progressive? You bet your ass it is.

The Royal Wes Anderson: King of Quirk

How does Wes Anderson make us fall in love with every one of his films? Yes, of course, he has his haters. “All his characters wear costumes and talk in monologues.” And they’re right, those things happen. But what makes the films heart-wrenchingly warm and poignant has more to do with what those characters are saying and why they look the way they do.

Sponsored Video: VH1 presents BMW (Bieber. Money. Women.)

Justin Bieber has become a caricature of himself. Whether it be the entourage he rolls with to host SNL, or joyriding his Ferrari so douchetastically as to be followed home by former NFL bad boy Keyshawn Johnson for a lecture on the finer points of gated-community driving behavior. Bieber’s exploits have become so incredibly bizarre that it feels as if he hired a team of writers to put out farcical press releases while indulging in some sort of hallucinogenic drug binge.

The Oddest Book Titles Of 2013
spot cool stuff MEDIA

The Pulitzer Prize, the Booker Prize and the Nobel Prize get most of the “prize” headlines. We think it’s time people give more love to the Diagram Prize, a prestigious honor that’s awarded each year to the book with the oddest title.

That heartwarming tale, it turned out, was written by a computer! (These days the tome is a collectors item that fetches $800 per copy).

An Interactive Puzzle Novel
spot cool stuff MEDIA

There are many books filled with puzzles. And there are many, many, MANY books that are novels. But almost no books that are both.

In fact, we only one we know of one such tome: The Maze of Games. And that book isn’t even published yet. It’s a concept project that’s currently open to investors at the crowdfunding website Kickstarter. And what a cool concept it is.

spot cool stuff MEDIA

If you’ve visited our travel blog then you’ve likely already figured out: Spot Cool Stuff loves to get out and explore the world. Perhaps the only activity we enjoy more than exploring the world is exploring the world with kids. It’s magical taking a child on their first trip to a foreign country and introducing them to the richness of the planet. It can also be expensive. And time consuming.

That’s why we love the The Lonely Planet Not For Parents Travel Book. Its large, colorful pages offer children a fascinating, kid-friendly introduction to the countries of the world.
