The Pulitzer Prize, the Booker Prize and the Nobel Prize get most of the “prize” headlines. We think it’s time people give more love to the Diagram Prize, a prestigious honor that’s awarded each year to the book with the oddest title.
Or, most years it’s awarded. In 1987, the Diagram wasn’t handed out because no book title was deemed odd enough. Imagine the controversy! And that was nothing compared to the dispute among lovers of odd book titles caused by the 2008 Diagram winner: The 2009–2014 World Outlook for 60-milligram Containers of Fromage Frais. That heartwarming tale, it turned out, was written by a computer! (These days the tome is a collectors item that fetches $800 per copy).
